Sebastian Sandler

Managing Director

Sebastian opened XUL Architecture in 2008. His unique understanding of the design and building processes allow him to analyse the close relationship between design and cost, ensuring his projects are delivered on time, to budget and to the highest possible specifications. He is interested in researching different ways of introducing natural light to architecture. Prior to opening XUL, Sebastian qualified as an Architect in Argentina, and worked in a number of architectural practices in both Buenos Aires and the UK.

Maia Lemlij

Business Director

Maia is one of the founding partners at XUL Architecture. Her role as Business Director is to focus on strategy, sales and the operational aspects of the practice. Prior to working at XUL Architecture, Maia worked for 11 years at Space Syntax Limited, a design consultancy. Maia qualified as an architect in Peru and in 2003 continued her academic training at University College London (UCL), where she completed an MSc in Advanced Architectural Studies.

Richard Hodgkinson

Director

Before joining XUL in 2023 Richard spent 11 years working on private residential projects in South London. Richard is a RIBA chartered architect and studied at both Newcastle University and the University of Greenwich. Richard’s role in the company is to motivate and inspire the team to deliver the highest quality architecture. Richard has a particular interest in computational advances in the construction industry, and how these advancements can create a more collaborative and personalised design process.

Ingmar

Director—Senior Architect

Ingmar deals with a full range of architectural services, coordinating the design team from formulation of the brief through design development, to completion of projects on site. Prior to joining XUL, Ingmar worked for over 14 years as an architect in London. Ingmar qualified as an architect in Germany and continued his academic training at the Mackintosh School of Architecture (University of Glasgow), where he completed an M.Arch degree course in Conservation Studies.

Sharon Fields

Office Manager—PA

Sharon joined XUL Architecture in 2016 as an Office Manager. She is a resourceful and organised office manager with financial expertise and versatile administrative support skill set developed through over 25 years of experience. Sharon has successfully managed the daily operations of many demanding offices and has exceptional skills in setting up office policies, developing and implementing office procedures.

Frederico Marques

Project Architect

Before joining XUL in 2022, Frederico qualified as an Architect in Portugal and has spent his architectural career predominantly in London where he has delivered various projects across different scales, from one-off bespoke houses and refurbishments to large-scale housing developments. In all projects, he aims to work collaboratively with clients and consultants, and is skilled in design and project management, with good technical knowledge. Frederico is particularly interested in the design of low-energy buildings and is studying to become a Certified Passivhaus designer.

Henry Seal

Architectural Technologist & UX Designer

Before joining XUL in 2023, Henry worked for 6 years on private residential projects across south London focusing primarily on the technical design process. Henry holds a bachelor’s degree in architectural technology and is an Associate member of CIAT - The Chartered Institute for Architectural Technologists. With a keen eye for technology, Henry has always been interested in how emerging technologies can better the way the industry works with clients.

Alexandra Tarabuta

Architectural Assistant

Alexandra completed her Master’s in Architecture in Romania before joining XUL Architecture in April 2021. Prior to graduation, she had been practicing as a student intern in a local architectural and urbanism office in order to gain experience in projects of various scales. As an Architectural Assistant, Alexandra's role at XUL is to support all members of the team, from bringing innovative ideas to using her software skills in order to deliver a project. In her spare time she loves travelling and listening to music while baking.

Anna Kaminska

Part 1 Architectural Assistant & UX Designer & Content Creator

Anna completed her Bachelor’s in Architecture at Oxford Brookes University before joining XUL Architecture in October 2023. Inspired by how the brain is influenced by the built environment, she became interested in the topic of neurodiversity in architecture and has made it the core of her design research. Apart from creating architectural visuals, Anna enjoys writing and producing content on the influence of architecture on our wellbeing.

Part 2 Architectural Assistant

Sergiy is a Part 2 Architectural Assistant at the XUL architecture team, having joined in 2023. With a master’s degree in architecture, he brings over 5 years of experience in architecture and interior design coupled with 8 years in architectural visualization. Throughout his career, Sergiy has actively engaged in diverse projects with tight timelines, honing his skills in delivering excellence in every aspect of his work. His commitment to perfectionism drives him to continuously strive for the highest standards in architecture and design.

Associate Director OR Director

We are looking for an outstanding Director or Associate Director (depending on experience) who is dynamic, ambitious and ready to take on a challenge to help shaping the future of the practice as well as to achieve our short and long term goals.

What are we looking for:

We are looking for a talented RIBA Senior Architect Part III with at least 10 years UK experience to manage a small team and project delivery. Applicants must have UK and London based experience, with experience in high-end residential projects, one off houses for private clients. Ideally should have completed more than 7 high end residential projects in London of a project value of over £1 million.

Skills:

A skilled architect

  • A creative designer able to run residential projects through all RIBA stages.
  • Experience in London high-end residential (single family houses and small developments) and commercial projects.
  • Strong AutoCAD skills essential. Revit advantageous as we would like to start using it in the near future
  • Designing initial phases of all architectural projects
  • Supervising Project Development throughout all stages 

Client relationship management

  • Ensure client satisfaction at each stage of the project.
  • Submitting report of the project at on a regular basis to the client and team.
  • Keeping the client up to date at every step of the project, getting their approval for the next stage. 

Team Management

  • Manage team members and project’s KPIs
  • Lead, manage and coach staff to support their development and progression
  • Set objectives for employees ensuring that these are SMART
  • Supervise the team and carry out regular design checks
  • Coordinating the design team to organise all parts of the project.
  • Ensure the team manage their time effectively so that the projects are profitable
  • Running weekly team meetings
  • Implementing assessment tools for staff in trial period and afterwards, ensure accountability
  • Coordinate employees’ appraisals
Salary depending on experience.

Architectural Assistant — Part II

XUL Architecture is looking for a talented Part II Architectural Assistant or recently qualified Part III Architect to join its busy studio in Belsize Park. Applicants must have UK and London based experience, with experience in high-end residential projects. You will be supporting our team across various projects at different RIBA stages, providing a great learning opportunity.  

We are also working on developing systems to improve the way in which we deliver projects, and you would be helping us in this exciting plan. This would be an excellent opportunity to get an in-depth understanding of project management, team and client communications.

  • 2 years minimum experience in high end residential new build houses and period refurbishment projects for private clients and small commercial projects
  • Strong design and technical skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent spoken and written English
  • Strong AutoCAD essential
  • Graphics skills and Sketchup advantageous
  • Experience in constructions drawing packages preferable
