Islington Architects → What our clients say
Five star service *****
“A totally professional and very approachable team who are so easy to deal with. We had numerous meetings until everything we wanted was put down on paper. Would definitely use this firm again.”
Would 100% recommend
“We looked at four different architects because we were unsure of how much XUL had done in the Hampstead Garden Suburbs. Other practices were way behind in creativity and presentation. XUL saw things that others didn’t and saw the potential of the house. The turn-around time was also exceptional. If I had to do it all again, they would be my architects.”
—Julliette and Michael Overlander
Fantastic Architecture practice
“They get the balance right between listening to brief, stretching ideas and sticking to budget constraints. I would wholeheartedly recommend. They are a delight to deal with!”
A trustworthy and highly creative company
“We experienced XUL as a thoroughly dependable and trustworthy creative team which acted as a supportive partner throughout the project we worked on together. Sebastian got involved in every aspect of the process, and the external consultants he brought in were consistently excellent, contributing greatly to the results achieved. I recommend XUL for any architectural project you may be considering: you will get more than you imagine, including a fulfilling and enjoyable relationship with some deeply committed and creative people.”
Islington Architects → Thinking of Moving to Islington?
Considering the prospect of moving to Islington and the N1 area code of inner London? Here’s all you need to know about housing opportunities and life in the area.
The largely residential borough of Islington is as close as you’ll get to central London without paying through the nose for the privilege, which is why it’s naturally a very popular destination for professionals working in the city. It’s cool, chic, and vibrant without showing off while also offering a suitable solution for families wishing to settle north of the river.
The History of Islington
The borough of Islington is one of North London’s oldest, and its known existence dates back as early as the early 11th century. It is also one of the first districts north of the river to have a church (St Mary’s, 12th century) while huge housing developments occurred in the 19th century. In fact, the population multiplied by over 30x during the course of the century.
Islington also boasts a rich history in sport, both cricket and football, as well as music, television, and entertainment. It was one of the most affected areas of World War II, with bombs destroying at least 3,000 housing developments.
House Types & Price in Islington
Due to the bombings and subsequent redevelopment by Islington architects, a lot of buildings throughout the borough of Islington were erected in the 1960s. Meanwhile, the surviving Georgian houses have become primarily used by the middle classes, except for those that have been transformed into flats.
House prices across the borough do fluctuate depending on which area you move to. On the whole, though, the average property value is just above £600,000 while rental prices area little over £600 per calendar month. (Per Foxtons)
Islington architects continue to redevelop the area with new housing, with a particular focus on apartment blocks and multi-unit properties. However, houses continue to be made in the areas away from Islington high street.
Life In Islington
Islington is a fairly large borough that incorporates Angel, Finsbury, Holloway, St Luke’s, and Highbury among others. As such, life in Islington can vary depending on the area you live in. However, the fact that most people stay in the area once moving in tells a story in itself.
The area is very well connected to central London while King Cross gives direct routes to other parts of the country. The transport network offers workers fantastic earning potential, which is why the area is loved by young professionals and working families alike.
Crime rates are largely below average, although some areas do reach average levels of crime. Meanwhile, the area is home to some very good schools as well as respected colleges. When combined with the plethora of amenities, it’s no wonder the area is popular with so many.
Moving to Islington
Moving to Islington can be a little difficult due to the proximity to central London. Still, with the right organisation, it is possible to enjoy a stress-free relocation, even when moving from outside of the capital.
