300+ projects completed in Barnet, Brent, Camden and Haringey

We have worked on a number of boroughs in London. Most of our work is in Camden, Barnet, Haringey and Westminster, which are some of the most challenging boroughs in terms of Planning.

In any case we always do detailed research on any local constraints and regulations. On complicated projects and/or listed buildings we often work closely with a  planning consultant. We are used to working on listed buildings and conservation areas.

How we work

It can be a challenge to keep up with all the stages involved in designing and building or renovating a home. Our step-by-step method makes it easier.

We’ve created a platform (a bit like Dropbox) so you have every bit of information about your project at the click of a button. That means we’re all on the same page, and you’ll be able to put your hands on the plans and timeline exactly when you need them.

By explaining every stage carefully, we ensure that even if you’ve never worked with an architect before, you’ll feel confident, happy, and inspired – without fear of losing control of time or budget.

And we’re ingenious and innovative, not only in our design, but also in overcoming any hurdles in the logistics of your project. We’ll bring all our ideas out into the light and we’ll always take a ‘can do’ approach – but at the same time we’ll be clear and honest with you if something needs to be rethought.

Because while a beautiful home is the aim, it’s just as much about enjoying the journey to get there.

Harnessing Local Charm: Home Renovation Advice for Amersham Residences

Introduction

Located in the verdant heart of Buckinghamshire, Amersham is a town that holds a charming balance of old and new. It boasts of an intriguing tapestry of architectural styles that blend to give it a distinct aesthetic. If you’re a homeowner in Amersham planning a home renovation, you have a unique opportunity to enhance the town’s heritage while also imbuing your space with modern amenities. This article offers tips on how to carry out your renovation while respecting the local architecture and environment.

Understanding Amersham’s Architectural Heritage

Amersham, divided into Old Amersham and Amersham-on-the-Hill, showcases a wide array of architectural styles, from charming 17th-century cottages to the more contemporary designs of the Metroland era. As a local homeowner, it’s essential to appreciate this spectrum of styles when planning your renovation.

Old Amersham is awash with half-timbered buildings, brick and flint constructions, and charming period features. Here, renovations should aim to retain these characterful elements while enhancing functionality. On the other hand, the 1930s ‘Metroland’ houses of Amersham-on-the-Hill offer an opportunity to embrace the bold shapes and clean lines of the Art Deco era.

Plan and Prioritise Your Renovations

Regardless of your location within Amersham, start your renovation process by identifying your needs and wants. Which areas of your home need immediate attention? Which aspects could wait? Is there a specific style or period you’re drawn to? Would you prefer a mix of old and new?

Perhaps you want to update your kitchen or create a new bathroom. Or maybe you’re considering an extension or a loft conversion to provide extra living space. Careful planning will ensure your renovation project aligns with your budget and goals.

Consider Energy Efficiency and Sustainability

Modern renovations provide an excellent opportunity to make your home more energy-efficient and sustainable. In a historic town like Amersham, this might seem challenging, but with a thoughtful approach, it’s entirely possible.

Consider installing double glazing to improve your home’s insulation while maintaining its period look. Using reclaimed or locally sourced materials can reduce your renovation’s carbon footprint and blend seamlessly with Amersham’s character. Renewable energy solutions like solar panels or ground-source heat pumps can also be incorporated without significantly altering your home’s external appearance.

Work With Local Professionals

The Amersham area is home to many experienced architects, builders, and craftsmen who understand the town’s architectural nuances. Engaging these professionals will ensure that your renovations are carried out to the highest standards, respectful of local styles, and compliant with planning regulations.

Remember that some older properties in Amersham may be listed or located in conservation areas, meaning there are specific rules about what changes can be made. A local professional can help you navigate these restrictions while achieving your renovation goals.

Preserve and Enhance Character Features

If you’re lucky enough to own a property in Old Amersham, embrace the opportunity to preserve and highlight the charming original features. Exposed timber beams, fireplaces, and brick or flint walls can all be incorporated into a stylish, modern interior.

For those in Amersham-on-the-Hill, the unique features of the Metroland homes – such as geometric window designs and decorative plasterwork – can be preserved and celebrated alongside contemporary design elements.

In Conclusion

Home renovations in Amersham require a careful blend of respect for the past and an embrace of the new. Whether you’re enhancing a charming period property in Old Amersham or updating a Metroland era home in Amersham-on-the-Hill, remember to plan, preserve original features, prioritise energy efficiency, and work with local professionals. This thoughtful approach will not only help preserve the town’s unique architectural heritage but also result in a home that’s beautiful, functional, and uniquely yours.
